Nutrition/Dietetics

Have you ever wondered why you lack energy at work?

Moreover, have you ever wondered what a dietitian does? While dietitians’ specialties can vary, a dietitian can help you in many ways.

    Our Sydney city Dietitians:

    • Provide friendly, professional and confidential advice
    • Help you with planning, monitoring, guidance and education about the correct eating habits
    • Analyse your current diet and nutrient intake and help you meet your nutritional requirements
    • Develop eating plans based on your individual tastes, lifestyle and nutritional needs
    • Develop a specialised plan if you have a condition that hinders a normal diet such as diabetes, coeliac disease, polycystic ovarian syndrome, high cholesterol, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, or a specific food allergy
    • Educate you about food’s nutritional content and help you understand food labels and nutrition information
    • Ensure you stay on track to reach your goals

    Eating is pleasurable

At Elevate we recognise that everyone is different and has individual needs, so we ensure you get the personal care
you deserve. We also believe that food and eating should be an enjoyable experience and demonstrate how to achieve wellbeing by eating so that you are satisfied but also flexible in your approach to food.

Best of all, we ditch the jargon and sort fact from fiction so you can still enjoy your favourite foods - and have flexibility with accountability.

All dietitians at Elevate are Accredited Practising Dietitians (APDs) who will integrate your treatment with Elevate’s other health experts.

Can a dietitian help me with weight loss?

Yes, a dietitian can help you lose weight in a healthy way. Trained in many areas of human nutrition, Elevate’s accredited practitioners, recognised by the Dietitians Association of Australia (DAA), can provide advice on a wide range of dietary topics including:

    • Healthy eating
    • Fussy eating
    • Gut or liver ‘detox’
    • Sports nutrition
    • Diabetes
    • Metabolic syndrome
    • Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS)
    • Cardiovascular disease and heart health
    • Gastrointestinal health
    • Osteoporosis
    • Antenatal and postnatal conditions
    • Cancer
    • Renal (kidney) conditions
    • Food allergies and intolerances
Is a dietitian going to put me on a ‘diet’?

Not unless you have a specific medical condition or chronic illness that requires you to follow a specific diet. Your dietitian will help you implement healthy lifestyle choices and work with you to ensure their recommendations fit in with your lifestyle.

Our Sydney city Dietitians will discuss your current diet and ways to improve or modify it. You will then discuss a program that is suitable to your needs and lifestyle. You may also receive some education material and support on information specific to you so that you can commence achieving your goals. Follow-up appointments will be made, depending on your condition, your personal needs and your level of motivation.

Important: Research shows that regular reviews with a qualified dietitian help people better achieve their goals, compared to doing it alone.

Is the dietitian going to ask me to make a lot of changes all at once?

No, the dietitian will work with you to make a series of ongoing small changes over a period of time. You may only be asked to implement ONE change per week or visit. It is important to tell your dietitian if you are having trouble implementing a change as they can provide you with the support to make healthy choices easier for you.

What will happen at my first appointment?

At your initial consultation we like to get to know you as best we can so that we can provide personalised advice. We collect background information about your medical history, lifestyle habits and eating patterns with a strong focus on your current health and wellbeing goals.

We also discuss any recent blood tests that you have had and take some measures such as height, weight, BMI, waist circumference, hip circumference and test your blood (with a finger prick test, if we deem necessary. This may incur a very small additional charge). The whole process takes approximately one hour.

What are the payment options and are there any rebates?

You have the choice of paying by cash, cheque, EFTPOS, Mastercard or Visa.
    • Private Health Fund Rebates? Yes
    • Medicare Rebates? Yes
    • HICAPS? Yes
Can the dietitian do a talk for my workplace or local group?
Yes. Elevate dietitians are available for group talks, presentations and seminars.

What is the difference between a dietitian and a nutritionist?
In Australia all dietitians are considered nutritionists. However, nutritionists without a dietetics qualification cannot take on the specialised role of a dietitian.
